abstract = "Due to limitations and difficulties on the use of surface weather
stations networks, the data collected by remote sensors carried by
orbital satellites is an alternative which should be taken into
account, considering that the surface temperature is one of the
most important data provided by them, due to its large utility in
agricultural monitoring. This article compares the use of images
from the satellite AVHRR/NOAA, in order to obtain the surface
temperature, with the temperatures obtained by weather stations.
The satellite images were processed, and by using four different
equations it was obtained the surface temperature for each pixel.
Based on the coordinates of each surface weather station in
Paran{\'a}, it was possible to make a correspondence for each
pixel. With data from the satellite and the surface weather
stations, it was made several graphs in order to compare the
linear correlation between these values. This procedure was made
for three dates related to the occurance of frost: September 1,
                         2002; July 11, 2003; September 3, 2003. All the correlations
presented high values, indicating that the temperature obtained
through the satellite is not significatively different from the
data obtained by the weather stations. The turf temperature
presented a larger correlation, as expected, considering that this
is measured on the surface, while the minimum temperature of the
air is measured 1.5 m above the surface.",
